The beauty of empty space in Japanese prints and paintings is called yohaku no bi.
Growing up with understated Japanese scroll paintings in my family’s private collection, some of which were on loan to The Metropolitan Museum, Cleveland Museum Of Art, and The Fogg at Harvard, I unknowingly developed my own version of a sense of space.
For this online exhibition, I selected one work from each artist on the website. Please enjoy “A Sense Of Space: The 73rd Anniversary of The Verne Collection”.
Thank you to all the artists for the privilege of showing your work throughout the United States and the world. I look forward to seeing everyone at our exhibitions in Chicago and DC this fall.
If you come to the Verne Gallery in person, you can become totally spaced out.
