Craig Anczelowitz

Creative Beginnings

Craig was raised in a world of music, culture, and creativity. With his father’s restaurant
next to New York City’s famed Fillmore East concert hall – musicians, artists & creative
bohemians often traded their eclectic works for his dad’s meals resulting in a childhood
home filled with art, music, antiques, and crafts. Being raised in such an artistic
environment, it’s easy to see why Craig became an artist himself.

Craig x Awagami

After earning degrees in Art and Art History Craig began importing Awagami washi for a
popular store supplying New York artists with papers from around the globe. For nearly
a decade, Craig would introduce washi paper to a new generation of American artists,
lecturing extensively at NYC art schools, design clubs, art conferences & symposiums.
Fast forward to today and Craig has again found himself aligned with Awagami as their
International Director in charge of global sales, creative development, branding &
marketing.

Craig x Design

For over 20 years Craig’s job as Product Designer / Buyer afforded him the opportunity
to collaborate with master craftspeople such as Italian glassblowers, German
woodcarvers, French printmakers, Indian bronzesmiths, Thai ceramicists and Japanese
papermakers to name a few.

Craig has also worked extensively in Thailand as Design Consultant for home décor
manufacturers. By skillfully incorporating fine art & craft techniques with innovative
design thinking and trend-savvy branding, Craig guided Thai clients to newfound
international recognition; successfully landing their products at top design boutiques,
influential home décor shops and 5-star properties.

Craig x Fine Art

Over a lifetime spent amongst art and artists, Craig has been fortunate to acquire a
deep knowledge of materials, modes, tools, and techniques. Drawing from this artisanal
well, he uses an array of art-making processes atop washi paper to weave multi-layered
(and multi-national) narratives. His work has recently been cited as: “A creative and
careful co-mingling of art, design, fashion, and craft”. Craig’s fine-art career has been
spotlighted by over 30 years of exhibitions with his works having been acquired by U.S
universities, international corporations, and renown private collectors.
